Life in the Spirit

We’re in a series, looking with fresh eyes at who the Spirit is and what He does.

We want to grow as a Church into all that the Bible promises about what Life in the Spirit looks like. And we don’t want to settle anymore for just Sunday, moments or experiences in the Spirit. We want to grow into a new way of all of Life in the Spirit.

For most of us, we probably have a more narrow view of the work of the Holy Spirit. So we have put this resource together to read and pray through, of 53 different things that the Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit does. We hope this will teach you and encourage you to pray for and seek more of the work of the Spirit in your life.

What the Holy Spirit Does:

  1. The Spirit guides us (John 16v13).
  2. The Spirit empowers us (Luke 4v14; 24v49; Rom. 15v19; Acts 1v8).
  3. The Spirit leads us (Rom. 8v14; Gal. 5v18; Matt. 4v1; Luke 4v1).
  4. The Spirit produces the fruit of His work and presence in us (Gal. 5v22-23).
  5. The Spirit distributes spiritual gifts to us (1 Cor. 12v4, 8-10; Heb. 2v4).
  6. The Spirit regenerates us (John 3v5-8; Titus 3v5).
  7. The Spirit glorifies and testifies of Jesus (John 15v26; 16v14).
  8. The Spirit reveals Jesus to us and in us (John 16v14-15).
  9. The Spirit sanctifies us (2 Thess. 2v13; 1 Pet. 1v2; Rom. 5v16).
  10. The Spirit fills us (Eph. 5v18; Acts 2v4; 4v8, 31; 9v17).
  11. The Spirit teaches us to pray (Rom. 8v26-27; Jude 1v20).
  12. The Spirit bears witness in us that we are children of God (Rom. 8v16).
  13. The Spirit anoints us for ministry (Luke 4v18; Acts 10v38).
  14. The Spirit washes and renews us (Titus 3v5).
  15. The Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16v8).
  16. The Spirit brings unity, reconciliation and oneness to the Church (Eph. 4v3; 2v14-18).
  17. The Spirit is our guarantee and deposit of the future resurrection (2 Cor. 1v22; 2 Cor. 5v5).
  18. The Spirit seals us until the day of redemption (Eph. 1v13; 4v30).
  19. The Spirit sets us free from the law of sin and death (Rom. 8v2).
  20. The Spirit brings life to our mortal bodies (Rom. 8v11).
  21. The Spirit reveals the deep things of God (1 Cor. 2v10).
  22. The Spirit reveals what has been given to us from God (1 Cor. 2v12).
  23. The Spirit dwells in us (Rom. 8v9; 1 Cor. 3v16; 2 Tim. 1v14; John 14v17).
  24. The Spirit speaks to, in, and through us (1 Cor. 12v3; 1 Tim. 4v1; Rev. 2v11; Heb 3v7; Matt. 10v20; Acts 2v4; 8v29; 10v19; 11v12, 28; 13v2; 16v6,7; 21v4,11).
  25. The Spirit baptises us into the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12v13).
  26. The Spirit brings freedom (2 Cor. 3v17).
  27. The Spirit transforms us into the image of Jesus (2 Cor. 3v18).
  28. The Spirit cries in our hearts, “Abba, Father” (Gal. 4v6).
  29. The Spirit enables us to wait (Gal. 5v5).
  30. The Spirit grants everlasting life (Gal. 6v8).
  31. The Spirit prophesies through us(2 Pet. 1v21)
  32. The Spirit gives us access to the Father (Eph. 2v18).
  33. The Spirit makes us God’s dwelling place (Eph. 2v22).
  34. The Spirit reveals the mystery of God to us (Eph. 3v5).
  35. The Spirit strengthens us (Eph. 3v16).
  36. The Spirit enables us to obey the truth (1 Pet. 1v22).
  37. The Spirit enables us to know that Jesus abides in us (1 John 3v24; 4v13).
  38. The Spirit confesses that Jesus came in the flesh (1 John 4v2).
  39. The Spirit says “Come, Lord Jesus” along with the Bride / Church (Rev. 22v17).
  40. The Spirit dispenses God’s love into our hearts (Rom. 5v5).
  41. The Spirit bears witness to the truth in our conscience (Rom. 9v1).
  42. The Spirit teaches us (1 Cor. 2v13; John 14v26).
  43. The Spirit gives us joy (1 Thess. 1v6).
  44. The Spirit enables us to preach the gospel (1 Pet. 1v12).
  45. The Spirit moves us (2 Pet. 1v21).
  46. The Spirit knows the things of God (1 Cor. 2v11).
  47. The Spirit casts out demons (Matt. 12v28).
  48. The Spirit brings things to our remembrance (John 14v26).
  49. The Spirit comforts us (Acts 9v31).
  50. The Spirit makes some Elders in the church (Acts 20v28).
  51. The Spirit sends some out to the work of church planting (Acts 13v2).
  52. The Spirit helps us in our weakness (Romans 8v26)
  53. The Spirit prays for us (Romans 8v26)
