“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” – Mark 12v30
God First. God-Centered. Following Jesus. Spirit-filled. Walking with God.
Whatever you want to label it, our culture as a Church begins with Knowing God, and Cultivating a relationship with Him.
(Mark 12v30, Philippians 3v7-8, John 17v3, Ephesians 3v12, Psalm 37v4 and 42v1-2)
The Gospel, the Good News of who Jesus is and what He has done, is our Center, our Big Idea, and the message we preach. To be Gospel-Centered means that we are re-shaping our lives around Jesus and His message, and letting it transform everything about us.
(1 Corinthians 2v2 and 15v1-3, Mark 1v14-18, cts 11v26, Romans 1v16)
Jesus Great Commission to Make Disciples is our Mission as a Church.
Just as Jesus was sent to Earth from Heaven, so he sends us out into our City and the World (John 20v21), to proclaim the Gospel in word and deed, and to see people begin to follow Jesus, obey Jesus and do what he did.(Matthew 28v18-20, Acts 14v21, John 20v21, Ephesians 4v11-12, John 13v34-35, Matthew 7v12, Jeremiah 29v4-7)
We seek to Multiply the Gospel into people, and to raise up Gospel-Shaped Disciples, Leaders (In All Spheres of Society), Couples, Families, Groups, Ministries, Businesses and Churches, and plant them in the soil of Durban to advance the Kingdom of God in our City.
(Genesis 1v28 and 12v1-3, 2 Timothy 2v2)
The main picture used to describe the Church in the New Testament is the Family. So, as a Church we want to live life together. The good and the bad bits. The easy and the hard bits. We want to be a warm, welcoming, loving Church, to all people; and, we want to have the hard conversations that families have, to challenge and shape each other into the way and image of Jesus.
(1 Thessalonians 2v7-11, John 13v34-35, Acts 2v42-47, Romans 12v10)
We are called to see our everyday lives as opportunities to partner with Jesus in His ongoing work, to influence our City and its people by the power of the Gospel. To see His rule and reign – His Kingdom come – in every sector and sphere of life in the City of Durban and beyond. And to see our lives, families, workplaces and the City as a whole transformed and made new by the power of God.
(Isaiah 61, Luke 4v16-21, Matthew 5v13-16, Matthew 6v10+33)
Life and Death, Sacrifice and Celebration. We are committed to both.
Jesus set us an example of what it means to be His Disciple through the life He lived, and the sacrifice He made on the Cross for us. But, Jesus also came to bring “life and life to the full”, and we also want to take every opportunity to celebrate the life, salvation and joy that we have found in Him.
(Mark 8v34-35, John 10v10)
